LOBES OF LUNGS

LOBES OF LUNGS

The human lungs are divided into lobes, which are sections separated by fissures. The right and left lungs differ in their number of lobes due to the placement of the heart.

  1. Right Lung (3 Lobes):

    • Superior Lobe: The topmost lobe.
    • Middle Lobe: Situated between the superior and inferior lobes.
    • Inferior Lobe: The bottom lobe.
    • The lobes are separated by the horizontal fissure (between the superior and middle lobes) and the oblique fissure (between the middle and inferior lobes).
  2. Left Lung (2 Lobes):

    • Superior Lobe: The top lobe, which contains a region called the lingula.
    • Inferior Lobe: The bottom lobe.
    • The left lung has only an oblique fissure separating the two lobes.

The left lung is smaller and has fewer lobes because it accommodates the space taken up by the heart. Let me know if you need more details!
